Yeah, it’s quite surprising how they seem to be more calm that I expect them to be. Before watching this series, I was made aware that despite looking very easy going, this series will take a dark side (or something like it). The moment ‘Heartseed’ introduced himself, the atmosphere was just… heavy… and when Iori made her monologue, I just knew that the characters may be deeper than they seem.

So, yea, this “Heartseed” creature (I doubt he’s even from earth) is treating those kids like lab monkeys. If I were involved I’d be sick with frustration from wanting to lash out at it without knowing how to get at it, particularly after the way it abused the two girls. But, thankfully, those five kids aren’t me and are dealing with their situation FAR better than I ever could have, even with humor no less. Iori’s monolog definitely was the point at which I mentally changed gears regarding my expectations for this show, though Yui’s outburst regarding Iori being home alone definitely cause me to start reviewing my mental notes in earnest. I’m hopeful we can expect a very interesting ride on this trip.
