So, I think it’s quite obvious by now that this is probably one of the best, if not the best, series currently airing. The satirical commentary is apt and witty, the characters are colorful and things are just plain crazy.
The first episode was a bit on the mellow side until the bread ripped himself open. But this episode immediately got on the crazy train: simple disappearances turned into a mass chicken conspiracy and honestly, this show truly loves throwing tons of completely weird, snide and hidden remarks that once again are critiquing the state of the world as we know it.
I think the title of this series can also be interpreted a bit differently: “Humanity Has Declined” can mean that it has, population-wise, decline. But it can also mean that humanity has declined in terms of education, morals, standard of living and a whole host of other things that this show will likely highlight. In fact, what I think is that beneath the absurd and weird humor this show has, this show is more of a social commentary. I know most people could care less about an anime series that involves lots of preaching (*coughaccelworldcough*), but when its done in the manner than Jintai does it, I think we got a real winner here. More of the same hijinks with FairyCo, the greedy receptionist and now even Watashi’s boss is just as evil (I mean citing Richard Nixon as your hero is pretty..unbelievable.)
I definitely loved the Assistant’s storytelling scene, which made the poor fairy compass completely depressed. If I can use an analogy: imagine the story as something from Gen Urobuchi, and imagine the depressed fairy as the viewers of Fate/Zero, Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica and other like-minded series. In fact, there’s a lot to compare and contrast with this show. Being a major anime fan makes watching Jintai a much more enjoyable experience, but if you loved social commentaries than this is a show that will satisfy you completely.
Speaking of chickens, anyone in the US going to participate in the Cow Appreciation Day at Chick-Fil-A? I’m tempted to
shamelessly dress up as a cow for a free dinner try on an interesting costume, even if halloween is many many months away.
